New PATIENTS

Appointments

Our specialist practice often sees patients through referrals from other dental and medical practices. However, referrals are not necessary. If you believe your child would benefit from specialist care and attention from a young age, we would be delighted to provide this.
Consultations and surgery are available at all three practices.
Please book an appointment with us over the phone or online. A friendly team member can organise a time for you to be seen.

Your First Visit

We often accept new patients as referrals from other dentists. These children are frequently referred because they require extensive dental treatment or are too apprehensive about dental appointments and require more specialist attention. As a result, during their first visit with us, we aim to make the overall experience pleasant and settling for your child.

The aim of the visit is to assess what needs to be done while ensuring that as little stress as possible is placed on the child. Your child will need to do no more than open their mouth wide and allow their teeth to be counted. As the parent or guardian of the child, you may be expected to participate in the process to reassure your child.

With the information we collect from the initial clinical examination, we can provide you with a plan for what needs to be done after that first visit. We will also provide you with information about treatment and what options are available to you so that you may make a well-informed decision about how to proceed. Generally, we do not commence treatment on the day of the first appointment. Directions are available here if you need help finding one of our practices.

Consultation and treatment on the same day

We understand that circumstances, such as the distance between your residence and an available specialist, make it difficult for you to seek urgent treatment to manage your child’s dental condition. To save you the trouble of making multiple lengthy trips to and from Brisbane, we offer the option of a same-day consultation and treatment appointment for patients who live more than two hours away.

We know it can be challenging to seek urgent dental care due to the distance from your home to a specialist. To make things easier for families living over two hours away from Brisbane, we offer the convenience of a same-day consultation and treatment appointment.
Please contact us by phone or e-mail to learn more about these combined appointments.

Fees & Payment Plans

Information about Fees & Payment Plans is here. But please do not hesitate to ask if you want more details about the costs involved.

Patient Care

Consultations and treatment are available at our Spring Hill, Mount Gravatt, and Chermside practices. Treatment can also be performed at facilities, including St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital.

We can provide treatment under the following conditions:

Local
Anaesthesia

Awake

Gaseous Sedation (Happy Gas)

Intravenous Sedation

Less Frequent

General
Anaesthetic

Usual

We encourage parents to discuss their children’s treatment options and be involved in their children’s care. We aim to provide parents with all relevant information to help them make critical decisions.

Treatment commences typically at the appointment following your initial visit. Parents and guardians are encouraged to be present with their child, provided their presence does not compromise the safety or quality of care. The exception to this is when treatment is provided under general anaesthetic or IV sedation – you will be allowed in until your child goes to sleep, but after that, we ask that you wait in the waiting room.

Oral health therapist

We recommend that children who require ongoing treatment also have an appointment with our oral health therapist, who has a wealth of knowledge in promoting good oral health. Our therapist works under the direction of Dr PY. Time spent with our oral health therapist will comprise one-on-one discussions, instruction, and advice on effective cleaning, the proper diet, and other features to maintain good oral health. We aim to ensure that every child can enjoy optimal oral health and maintain it through to adulthood.

After Hours Contacts

While we aim to provide you with the best care available, our practice is only limited to treatment during working hours. If your child has just undergone general anaesthetic surgery, we provide you with the number of our specialist paediatric anaesthetist should any concerns arise.

If you have an after-hours concern, please send an email to [email protected]

Continuing Patients + Home Care

If you have any further concerns about managing your child’s dental needs, please feel free to call us to arrange a time to visit us again. A review visit can be arranged a month after your child has had treatment under a general anaesthetic with us. We highly recommend that the child go back to see your local or family dentist for their six monthly dental checkup appointments. If you do not normally see a local or family dentist, we would be delighted to see you again or to recommend a dentist who is closer to home. Oral Hygiene Instructions: How to brush your teeth.
