Surgical Exposure for Teeth

Allowing kids' teeth to thrive with surgical exposure

Surgical exposure is a specialised procedure to assist with the proper eruption of teeth that are impacted or unable to emerge naturally. In most cases, this results from the tooth being impacted or stuck in the gums.

At Kids Dental and My Braces, we specialise in complex dental procedures for children, including Surgical Exposure. If you are concerned about your child’s teeth not emerging correctly, please book an initial consultation. During your initial consultation, our team will assess whether surgical exposure is an appropriate treatment for your child.

Why Might Your Child Need It?

If a tooth remains impacted, it can lead to crowding, misalignment, or delayed dental development. Surgical exposure helps guide the tooth into its correct position, ensuring a healthier, more functional smile.

How Is It Done?

During the procedure, we gently cut the gum to expose the tooth. A hard filling material has then been placed on the tooth to prevent the gums from healing over the exposed tooth and encourage the tooth to erupt into the correct position. In some cases, further treatment is required to help the tooth into position; this is usually in the form of interceptive orthodontics.
